Dear Kaki Golf Members,
Our team, Cobra 69 Golf based in Kota Damansara is looking for a team for friendly golf games throughout 2015.
A brief description of our team. We are a bunch of golf enthusiast ranging from low to high handicappers who often plays all over Klang Valley golf clubs.. The team was formed back in 2013 with only a few crazy hackers and now we have about 40 golfers who are actively looking for friendly games every month.
The format that we are looking at is Matchplay format and we can play anywhere in Klang Valley and any courses close by ie Melaka, N9 and even Perak.
To date, we have played against :-
1. K&M
2. GTG
3. Buaya Tembaga
4. Lizard
5. SGG
6. MCOBA
7. Hornbill Sakti
8. Crocodile Hunter
It will be a friendly game which will extend our golf network and friends among golf enthusiast across Malaysia.

(1) Are we playing just for honours or are there any prizes? If so will there be any entry fees imposed
(2) Who will be organising?
(3) How players to a team?
(4) Mode of Play
(5) How many rounds?
(6) How do you determine players' handicap?
(7) Time frame to complete the matchplay event?

Hi mrfeelgood..firstly i wud like to thank for ur respond & interest in our post, below are brief info for you to look at. If both team are keen to it, we will arrange our team capt to meet up for more match details.
1.Normally we do collect pool money, RM50 min to RM100 max from each players from both team as the prize for the team winner. Also from dat pool money we will take some portion to buy a trophy (Price range from RM250 to RM300, balance is for the team winner)
2.Both team will organise it..since it will be home and away match.
3.Min 20 players, Max 28 players for each team
4.Matchplay Individual and Partnership Best Ball
5.2 rounds (home & away)
6.We will divide into 3 group
a) hcap 9 and below
b) hcap 10 to 16
c) hcap 17 and above
will fight against their group, lets say we have set 20 players each team.
Flight 1 to 3 : each team will field their hcap 9 & below players
Flight 4 to 8 : each team will field their hcap 10 to 16 players
Flight 9 to 10 : each team will field their hcap 17 and above players
7.Normally within 2 months for the home n away match

Thank you for the explanation ... Sorry! Some more questions if I may ask:
(1) Are we talking about:
(A) A matchplay event between participant teams. viz if there are 8 teams taking part then all 8 teams will compete against each other. Kinda of a long haul if you have min. of 20 to a team, and then you have individual, partnership and team event. Coz if you have 8 teams, then thats 8 x 20 = 160 pax. I think the numbers configuration in matchplay is something like: 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 (and they say anything below 64 pax isn't going to be too exciting)
(B) Or are we talking about piece-meal* matchplay ... Meaning only 2 teams competing at a time?
* ( Sorry! .. Lack of a better word to describe this ;) )
(2) Handicapping .. I think we all know that this will be the trickiest issue and would usually be a point for eventual disputes. That being said ... Are we using official handicaps? And what about those without official handicap cards? Can they take part, if yes ... How do we determine their handicaps?
(3) Since this isn't an inter club matchplay ... What would you mean by "home" & "away" venues? Who gets to pick which venue as home (or otherwise)?
(4) Tournament format and/or stages (If we are pursuing option 1A lah)? ... Will we be having preliminary rounds, qualifying rounds, quarter finals, semi finals and finals etc? ... I think you'd agree that we need numbers to kick start a matchplay event, unless you have other ideas if the number of participants fall short?

Also I don't think I agree with this one ... I think each team should be allowed to arrange and fixed which of their players is to compete against which other player in the opposing team, regardless of handicap. I think this is the best part of a matchplay event, where the ability to choose players competing is one of the key factors in the strategy. Also the mode of play should not be stroke play and definitely not stableford points.
Again I apologise for these series of comments/replies but this thread has attracted 1,664 reads (when I posted this comment) in the last 24 hours since you started it ..... and the most online today is 1,124 viewers (Usually there would be an average between 1,500 - 2,000 unique viewers visiting this forum each day) ... So this thread has attracted quite an interest, almost everyone has read this thread ;)

1.Yes it is actually a friendly game between two team only..etc cobra 69 vs kaki golf..lets say :
Cobra 69 home @ Templer Park
Kaki Golf home @ Kota Permai
But in the future if wud be great if we can organise an inter club match with maybe 8/12 players from each team to compete..with a matchplay format..so no hcap is given..semua main scratch..
2.Yea, since hcap is always something dat can be tricky..so my suggestion is..since its a matchplay format..no hcap is given..all player will be playing scratch..but any player with 3 down are entitle to 1 stroke to the next playing hole..1 stroke remains if the player remains with 3 down
3.Both team will decide their home venue
4.No..its not a tournament with many team..its a match between two team.
6.Still can be discuss further either to divide into group of low,mid,high hcapper or to play scratch with 1 stroke per 3 down..but the format must be matchplay (hole by hole) not strokeplay or stableford

I think there's a lot of interest cuma I think they need to know more kut ... Also bawah KakiGolf ni sebenarnya dah jadi byk sub/splinter groups, so maybe instead of KakiGolf vs Cobra 69 ... kita allow KakiGolf members to form their own groups just for this matchplay ... We can have more matches! ... My 2 sen!!!

No worries bro.. the more questions you have, meaning more interest we are getting to set the matches. Maybe in the future we can organize a league to play throughout the year. It makes it more interesting, no? ;)
totally agreeing with you on the sub-group. the more matches we have, the better. My view on this, apart from KakiGolf vs Cobra 69, if permissible, we can use this forum as a platform.
Maybe we can discuss this further over a game of golf? :)

Bro .. can we set a date for this matchplay? I'm getting quite a number of enquiries, hopefully thats a good sign .. Why don't we kick start with Cobra 69 v KakiGolf first, just to get the ball rolling .
